Some of you might have seen the wonderful episode of Anthony Bourdain’s series ‘The Layover’ that has been making the rounds of the social networks since yesterday. My good friend Gita Seaton’s restaurant Nouveau Palais was featured in the episode for their weekly collaboration with local taco ninjas Grumman ‘78. Since the taping of the episode the taco nights at Noveau Palais have ceased but in light of the episode’s release they are reuniting tomorrow one more time for a POP-UP taco night and I am going to be gracing the soirée with music. TIME FOR SOME UPDATES

Once again things got a bit out of control and this site ended up once again under the bus. Since the last time I updated there have been a number of things going on both Hatchmatik related and not so I’m going to try here to get things back on track.

First off – not on the Hatchmatik tip but still related to the extent that these are the projects that kept me from doing Hatchy things – I recently completed a book design project for Galerie Elena Lee as well as organizing an art show/party for Vice and INQ Mobile. You can read about these projects – as well as all of my other endeavours over on my PORTFOLIO site graciously hosted by Cargo Collective.

As far as Hatchmatik news is concerned – in my lapse of updating I participated in the Red Bull Thre3style Montreal DJ competition. Of course posting about the competition here would have made perfect sense for trying to get fans out to support at the event but I was too busy freaking out trying to perfect my set to remember that I have a website for these types of things.

For those of you who are still not familiar with the format each DJ is given 15 minutes to play at least 3 styles of music and wow the crowd to the best of their abilities. My main man and Peer Pressure brova A-Rock was the back-to-back winner of the competition the past two years running so I had pretty big shoes to fill but I ended up with 2nd place when recently transplanted via Halifax Dj Cosmo was the man to take home the big prize. WHY DID HE HAVE TO MOVE HERE!!!! HAHAHA Just kidding Cosmo killed the crowd with his technically perfected selections and was definitely the deserved champion. Cosmo is going to be on tour with the amazingly talented Azaelia Banks when the Canadian final goes down next Friday in Toronto so Red Bull has asked me to take his place and represent Montreal. If you’re in Toronto you can cop tickets here or hit me up if you want to come through I’m sure I can hook it up.

NEW RESIDENCY

Tonight kicks off a brand new Thursday night residency at the Velvet Underground in Montreal’s Old Port that will be shared between my good friend Kyle Kalma and myself. Each month we will kick it off with a night where we play back to back. The following weeks will be split between one night each where we hold it down alone – the final week of the month being one of us residents alongside a guest.

The concept of the night is START SOFT/FINISH HARD highlighting the Aubere Saint-Gabriel’s (Where Velvet is located) 5à7 menu of foods selected by the Auberge’s chef as well as cocktails designed by none other than maestro Eric Jensen – then transitioning down into the rave cave that is the velvet to finish the night off with dancing.

Kyle and I are really psyched to be playing at Velvet regularly again and we look forward to seeing you all down at the Velvet soon.

ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN

Both of these events are among my recurring standout favorites for summer and this time around they happen to both be on the same day. OUCH.

PARTY MARATHON LET’S GO.

Twice a summer during the Saint-Laurent street sale,Tokyo Bar opens its rooftop patio during the day for an afternoon of good fun, good food, and good people. Sadly I missed the first one of this summer so I have been looking forward to the 2nd installment of the Formula Fun BBQ (aka FFUN – the first one coinciding with Montréal’s Formula1 weekend hence the name) since June.

The second event only happens once a year and liver willing we will all be in fine form for the annual Peer Pressure return to Vinyl Lounge. Vinyl was the birthplace of the very first weekly Peer Pressure instalment ‘The Saturday Scandal’ and was home to many a packed sweaty hands in the air dance party. Now that Peer Pressure is all but a thing of the past we relish and nostalgiacize once a year at the end of the summer with the whole crew returning to rock the tiny club once more. It will be packed – It will be sweaty – It will be gross – It will be so much fun – It will go late (*wink)
